Tuesday
Regular school day. In the afternoon students will have a work period while we watch the movie. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is based on the true story of William Kamkwamba (Maxwell Simba), a 13-year-old boy living in a small village in Malawi, Africa, who created a device that would restore the land and save his people after flooding ruined their grain fields. There are some difficult scenes that I will do my best to skip due to violence or strong language. The movie is rated PG. The movie speaks to themes of the social studies curriculum and provides connection for the grade 5 & 6 current novel studies.

Wednesday
Visit to the HR MacMillan Space Center:
Wear: oxford shirt, Highroad cardigan, shorts or kilt, uniform shoes
Bring: Lunch, snacks and water bottles (NO technology permitted)
- 8:00 Arrive at school for attendance
- 8:15 Bus departs
- 1:30 bus leaves to return to Chilliwack
- 3:30 Arrive at HRA (depending on traffic)
Thursday
Track Meet @ Bear Creek Park in Surrey:
- 6:50 am Arrive at school for attendance
- 7:00 am Bus departs
- 3:45 pm Bus returns to HRA (depending on traffic)
Wear: HRA PE strip
Bring: Snack, Lunch, 2 water bottles, money for snacks at the concession (students are solely responsible for their own money brought), sunscreen, a hat, rain jacket (weather appropriate gear)
*there is very little shelter in case of extreme sun or rain, please come prepared for all weather!
