Week One is done:
Congratulations! We have made it safely to the end of a great start of grade six. Students have worked hard to adjust to the back to school routine and in doing so have demonstrated both great flexibility and focus. I am so excited to have each of the students in this class with me for the year!
Are you curious about what we will be up to in September? In math we will begin place values and number concepts on Monday. In Social Studies students are working on mapping Canada. Studies in Science will start with exploring “growth mindset” and goal setting. In Language Arts we are reading a non-fiction text passage from Current Events and exploring the topic of Quebec’s New Secularism Laws. We will also start a novel study with a great character study at the heart of the story later next week! In P.E. we are working on a unit in soccer (we will go outside, please send all students with water bottles). Lastly, we will be working really hard to be independent and organized as we begin grade six. If you notice student work floating around at home, please insist it is tucked safely in their binder.
Ways you can support your child’s success this year include fostering independence in ways that are right for your family! Encouraging your child to join a school sport or worship leadership team. Checking the blog and planner regularly (although deadlines and homework is the student’s responsibility). Praying for your child, the class, the teacher and the school.
I am in my classroom most mornings before school and I am available after school until 3:30 if you would like to pop in to discuss anything. Email is a great way to stay in touch also. If there is anything you are wondering about or would like to share with me my door is open and my inbox is waiting!
Warm regards,
Ms. Froyland
