Taco Party February 14th

Have you heard about the crazy taco themed math we have been working on in Grade 6? As an extension activity, we have worked on building fictitious “Taco Truck” businesses. Students have explored seeking loans, loan interest, choosing a loan term, purchasing infrastructure, building a menu, taking orders, calculating taxes, gratities, discounts and even percent margin errors over the course of a year. While some loved this left brain way of exploring a business, some of my right brain thinkers were hoping to have a chance to demonstrate their creativity.

On Monday, students will have a chance to use both sides of their brains! In math this week, students will design a 3D version of their business. Part of the activity will require students to estimate and calculate the perimeter and area of the various components of the design. The 3D design project is due on Friday, February 14th, class time will be provided but students may need to work at home to fully realize their best work.

Friday we plan to have a TACO PARTY to celebrate our learning. Students will have a chance to present their businesses to each other. You are invited to come too!
