Weekly Update

Dear Grade 6 community,

This week has had its share of challenges and triumphs. As we all adjust to the routine of back to school and the added complexities of the pandemic I wanted to thank you all for the support I have felt from home. It is clear, this collection of children are well loved. The students have demonstrated patience, a willingness to practice the principle of “yet, respect they have from their school and above all else love in the friendships I see between students .

A few housekeeping items for you:

Chromebook Policy:

Students brought home the Chromebook Policy yesterday. We will start to use the chromebooks in class next week but it is very important the students/parents understand the weight of the responsibilities these devices carry. Please be sure to discuss this policy with your student.

Health Check:

Please note, HRA has adjusted the health check protocol. The information has been distributed by the HRA office. If you have questions please email or call the school. I DO NOT need you to fill the form out and submit it to class. Please continue daily checks and consult with a health care provider if your student experiences symptoms for further directions.

Terry Fox Run:

Terry Fox is such an excellent example of a person who demonstrated a Growth Mindset in trying times. Our class will join the greater HRA community in remembering the cause. We will collect Toonies for Terry to be donated to the Terry Foundation. Cancer has touched many of our lives, friends or family members. While we remember Terry’s loss, students often are reminded of the toll cancer may have taken closer to home. (Due to the smoke, we monitor the air quality and plan our run accordingly.)

Planners:

Students will write in their planners daily. Please check planners for classroom information or work students are encouraged to complete at home.

Grade 6 studies this week:

Math: Place value of whole numbers up to the billions

Language Arts: Novel Study (The King’s Equal). Students will be starting a project soon and may ask for support building a board game to demonstrate their knowledge of the novel we have explored.

Science: Growth Mindset

Bible: What does the Bible say…. Who am I? Who is God?

French: Basic greetings and alphabet

Social Studies: Government/Developing a Covid Vaccine (Current Events)

Music: Guitars

PE: Soccer

Art: The Austen Principle (Butterflies)

Have a lovely weekend!

Peace and grace,

Ms. Froyland
