Oct. 19th-22nd

Dear Grade 6 community,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to jump back into a short but exciting week. Students will wrap up the final touches on their board games tomorrow and participate in a celebration of learning on Wednesday (aka class party).
Our agenda for the day will begin as usual with Bell Ringer writing, check in Devotions/prayers, Bible Memory Quiz and chapel. After recess festivities will begin. Students are welcome to wear their school uniform or may dress up as a character from the novel such as a goat, wolf, prince, princess or court councilor (change after recess). Student will have an opportunity to present their projects to their peers outlining important rules and aspects of their designs. After lunch, students will participate in a tournament of board games! If time permits, we may have an opportunity to play some other festive games.
Traditionally, students bring snacks for class parties. During Covid only prepackaged drinks and snacks will be permitted. If your child does bring a treat please be sure there is one for everyone (24 students total) and there are NO PEANUTS in the ingredient lists.
It is very important all students are prepared to present on Wednesday! Please check in with your child on the status of their game. While we are really working hard towards empowering students to be as independent as possible, sometimes it takes a little extra support to get those projects across the finish line. Look for pictures up on the blog for a window into our celebration!
This week we will also continue a study of government in Canada at all levels, we will specifically be exploring the British Columbia election. In math we will wrap up our study of place value with an assessment and some games. In Language Arts students will do a writing assessment you will have a chance to view at parent/student/teacher interviews. In science we will start to explore the properties of heterogeneous mixtures. In both French and Art students will have a quiz in which they will demonstrate their level of understanding  in simple french greetings and basic elements of art. In PE, students are just beginning a volleyball unit with focus on serving, receiving and returning a ball with control. In Bible class students are using our devotional as a springboard to plan a project as a table group to show our community what love looks like!
A gentle reminder, students need to have weather appropriate clothing for school as we will head outside even in cool and wet weather.
Peace and grace,
Ms. Froyland
p.s. There were a few errors in last weeks calendar, I think the kinks are worked out. Note, BMV quizzes are on Wednesdays (no quiz on Nov. 11th).
