Dear grade 6 community,
This week seems to have flown by! Students have been working hard on a number of new areas of study.
Students have been busy working on these areas:
Math-place value (numbers up to the billions, greater than, less than, rounding and an introduction to integers)
LA- Writing personal narratives, letter writing
Science- the scientific method, science as a discipline (moving on to a short study on solutions)
Social Studies– Levels of Government as it relates to international trade
Art- Remembrance Day Tableaux Project
Bible- Adaptation of a group game the students enjoy to reflect biblical figures
PE- Volleyball
Read Aloud- Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullay Hunt
In science, we will be making a connection to traditional ways of knowing by studying the important role Eulachon had in BC. “Eulachon, an oily fish, has been known as “candlefish” because First Nations cultures used the dried fish as a torch at night [64].” The processing of the fish lends very well to our study of solutions. I wondered if there are parents out there who have experience with eulachon or have and eulachon oil we can borrow to help us to make connections a little more deeply.
Warm regards,
Ms. Froyland
